Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 builds upon the strengths of its predecessor and introduces some exciting new features, including being able to detect sleep apnea as well as providing you with an Energy Score to help plan your day more effectively.

It also comes equipped with a dual-frequency GPS chip, which should improve tracking accuracy significantly compared to single frequency chips found in previous models.

Features

As with previous Samsung watches, the Galaxy Watch 7 features fitness basics such as heartrate tracking and sleep monitoring; but what sets this one apart are its AI features: during workouts it can compare your current performance against past ones so as to help improve. Furthermore, you can create customized fitness routines and calculate an Energy Score based on activity from previous days; finally it even recognizes when answering calls/text messages so you don’t have to take your hands off the phone!

Underneath this device lies Samsung’s first 3-nanometer Exynos chip for lightning fast response – applications open quickly, processes complete promptly. It powers Samsung’s key Fitness and Health features that leverage BioActive Sensor data such as Energy Score and Wellness Tips similar to what Garmin and Fitbit provide with their respective Body Batteries/Readiness Scores/Tips scores/tips respectively.

Other fitness features of the watch include Multi-sport tiles for more complex workouts, GPS Trackback to guide you back to your trail starting point, and the capability of using your watch as a power meter to measure FTP without needing special equipment. You can access Galaxy Wearable app via watch itself or using one running One UI 6.1.1 or later smartphones running Android OS.

Design

Although not radically different from last year’s model, the Galaxy Watch 7 remains an elegant smartwatch. Featuring all-screen frontage with smooth stainless steel sides and two physical buttons — one on the right that takes you back to home screen via swipes or taps, and another one on the left for opening recently used apps — two-tapping on right button invokes Samsung’s digital assistant Bixby.

Underneath Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 lies its first 3-nanometer wearable chip: Samsung’s first ever 3-nanometer chip delivers impressive speed. Running Wear OS 5 and One UI 6, applications launch quickly, workouts begin without disruption and measurements wrap up swiftly – all thanks to this chip which also handles much of the work for BioActive Sensor on back!

The Galaxy Watch 7 includes a dual-frequency GPS antenna for superior location tracking in wooded areas, can detect falls with just one press of a button and calls emergency services with ease, features a built-in barometer to track changes in atmospheric pressure changes as well as daily light intake (which supposedly helps prevent dark circles) measurements and provides access to your barometer readings for your daily light intake measurement needs. Not intended to replace medical professionals; rather it provides access to tracking holistic metrics and workout data for wellness and fitness tracking purposes.

Battery life

In many respects, the Galaxy Watch 7 is an improvement on last year’s model. It’s faster and sleeker, boasting an improved display as well as Samsung’s signature dual-pinch feature (allowing quick access to various features on both watch and phone via two quick pinches) plus it carries FDA de novo certification for sleep apnea detection – something other big smartwatch makers have been touting for quite some time now.

Samsung’s first 3-nanometer Exynos chip is an immense upgrade from previous 2-nanometer versions, making the watch feel responsive with WearOS 5 and One UI software. Apps launch instantly, workouts begin without delay, sensors collect data quickly – all seamlessly connected to Samsung Health’s app on your phone that offers more in-depth analysis of fitness and health statistics like daily Energy Score and Sleep Score charts of your sleep patterns over time.

And it stands out with features that distinguish it from its competition, like waterproofing to 10ATM for swimming and running in rainy conditions, and an improved heart rate monitoring system with optical sensors and built-in ECG. Furthermore, this watch can be used to create custom workout routines for specific activities like yoga or biking rides by automatically recognizing their activities and providing feedback.

Performance

Samsung’s 3nm Exynos chip feels extremely responsive when combined with its upgraded BioActive sensor – now offering PPG heart rate/ECG/blood oxygen reading and bioelectric impedance analysis of body composition – creating a series of holistic health tracking features such as daily Wellness Score, sleep tracker redesign, and de novo certification for sleep apnea detection.

Though packed with additional functionality, the Galaxy Watch 7 remains very comfortable to use. Its always-on display and well-organized layout make navigating apps and settings simple; getting workouts started swiftly. Furthermore, its double pinch gesture allows users to launch or dismiss notifications, answer calls or control music playback without first needing to wake up their screen.

The Galaxy Watch 7 falls behind its competitors when it comes to battery life. My tests revealed that even with regular charging sessions, 40mm models often ran out of juice before dinnertime had arrived – while 44mm versions sometimes ran dry before lunch had arrived!

Note that while the Galaxy Watch 7 works with any Android phone, to experience all its capabilities fully you’ll require a Samsung smartphone. That’s because its designed specifically to work with Samsung Health and includes unique features like Suggested Replies, voice-to-text summaries from recordings, and sleep apnea detection.
